Current Self-Assessment
Write down an essay about yourself. What kind of person are you, what are the things you like doing, What are your negative behavior patterns, What are you strengths. This will give you a rough character sketch of what you currently are. Try to be as honest as possible with this essay.
Future Aspirations
Write down another essay about the kind of person you want to in the future. This does not need to be very clear or precise as a goal. But rather a philosophical understanding of the kind of person you want to become. What you truly want to achieve in life. It could be something like I want to respected, I want to be virtues and how morality means more to me than money. Or it could be I want to be a materialistic person. I want a very social life. I want to live a peaceful life in a countryside.
Analyze Core Values
After you have done this exercise, now just analyze the core values which you currently have and you want to achieve in your life. These values will serve as a framework for your decision making from now on. Whenever you have a decision to make just put that decision on your framework, does it align with your values, then proceed with it. If not then skip it.
Now after you have done this, you have a rough understanding of yourself. Which is necessary to act in according to your own values. That breeds originality within you. Your true self. This will bring some meaning in the long term in your life.
Define Clear Goals
Meanwhile in your short term you need goals to accomplish to keep you moving in life. Write down a goal that you want to accomplish in your life. In the near short term be it 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or 3 years. Write it down and be realistic with it. If you are a student this could be a competitive exam for you. If you an employee this might be a investment plan you want to build. If you are entrepreneur this could be a new business you want to start. If you are free lancer it could be any new skill you want to learn. or anything personal eat better, exercise more.
Whatever is your goal it should be something clear and precise and not vague and ambiguous. If it is something vague and ambiguous just add it in your future essay.
Create an Action Plan
Once you have finalized a goal. Make a rough summary of things which you think you need to do in order to accomplish the goal. From that summary make a task which you need to do and do it. Similarly do it each week and do not plan more than 2-3 weeks at once.
Keep Track of Tasks
While you made the plan and everything is there, what you are going to struggle with is, doing the things. First and foremost thing in that is making sure you don’t forget what were the tasks you were suppose to do. So write it down be in a notes app, paper, to do list, anything just write the tasks so that you don’t have the hassle of remembering things in your mind. Also add a deadline to it.
Overcoming Procrastination
Now if you want are unable to calm your mind and sit down and do the work. The most effective thing to do is do nothing absolutely nothing. Sit idly and do nothing no phone, no talking, nothing, remain quite, You will notice you are going crazy your brain is craving some stimulation. It wants to do something it doesn’t want to be alone doing nothing. Soon you will have the urge to do something and not be idle. Now use it and do the work you need to do.
